  2. 0x80040265 isn't really "unknown". Strictly, it is VFW_E_UNSUPPORTED_STREAM, which means that your AVI files contain at least one stream (e.g., the video) that you do not have the right codec for.

is it a corrupted file? , because it appears it is a divx file and you dont have the codec for it installed ....

its downloaded from BT. So far i dont have file corruption issues. this is the first time i encounter this problem. out of 10+ files, i got 3 of the files having this error. the others are fie.

i'm thinking if its the author whom did not compile the file properly causing it unable to be played.

    Hi folks,
did anyone find a solution to this one?
I have about 15 AVI files that used to work just fine, but now all return the same gspot results as the image on the first post.
    I have tried 'start > run > regsvr32 quartz.dll'
I have tried loads of different media players including divx and vlc all with no luck.
I can't burn it or convert either as it just says they are not valid video files.

Pleeeeeease help. I really don't want to have to get these films all over again.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Hopefully don't have to reformat my hard drive, i have no way of backing everything up first. And i really don't want to have to start again.
    Any other ideas???

If VLC can play the files, then you have missing/corrupt codecs. If VLC cannot play the files, then the files are corrupt.

Put a few of the files onto a disc and try on a different computer.

  11. Can you open it in VirtualDub ???

Are you sure it's an avi file and not an mkv or mpg with a fake extension ???

if your file is a true avi, it's header must begin with RIFF

I guess you get the prize this week for the most spelling mistakes. Have you no pride? "ti", "wernt", "eather" and "there" are all wrong. I suppose I should congratulate you for spelling "exact" correctly instead of something like "egzakt".

Anyway, torrents can get corrupted. All it takes is one person in the chain to have hard drive corruption and he'll send out a bad copy and everyone who gets the torrent from him will get the bad copy and pass it down the line.
